What is a channel?
A channel in an e-commerce context is every place you want data about your products to appear. In other words, when you create a channel, you’re pushing data out of the PIM to different locations, be they online or offline.
Online locations can include other stores managed by different markets or marketplaces, such as eBay, Amazon, and Etsy. You may wish for your products to appear on rating sites – these must present your most up to date products. Most importantly of all, your store may have a mobile app that boosts your sales, and you need to keep it up to date.
Offline locations may include your point of sale or a print catalog. This portion of your audience needs to be looked after as well and PIM makes use of these channels so that your products are always up to date.
